Prevent Downed Animal Abuse in NY

At farms and stockyards across New York state sick, injured, and diseased animals too weak to even stand (called “downed animals”) are thrown onto dead piles, dragged with chains, pushed with forklifts…and turned into human food.

Senator Liz Krueger introduced legislation for consideration during the 2007-2008 New York State Senate session to prevent downed animal abuse. Her proposal would require critically ill and injured animals to be humanely euthanized or provided with needed veterinary care. It would also prohibit their slaughter for human food.
