COW CRUELTY CASE
TO BE HEARD IN TOWN OF URBANA COURT
STRONG PENALTY SOUGHT BY ANIMAL PROTECTION GROUP
Farm Sanctuary is urging that the man
responsible for abandoning a severely injured cow off
of County Route 87 be prosecuted the fullest extent
of the law.
The
cow was dragged behind a livestock trailer, and she
was critically injured. At least two of her legs were
broken, and so much hide and flesh was scraped from
her body that ribs and other bones were clearly visible.

The man who dragged the cow left her
in a neighbor's yard and said he would be back to pick
her up. But he never returned. Approximately 7 hours
later, a veterinarian examined the cow and asked a state
trooper to put her out of her misery.
[name],
the man allegedly responsible for the cow's injury and
abandonment, is scheduled to appear before Judge William
Narby in the Town of Urbana court on May 10. He faces
misdemeanor charges and could be fined up to $1,000
and sentenced for up to 1 year in jail.
Commenting on the matter, Farm Sanctuary's
Administrative Director, Holly McNulty, stated, "The
callous disregard for animal welfare shown in this case
cannot be tolerated in a civilized society, and the
man responsible for this cow's prolonged suffering should
be penalized to the fullest extent of the law."
Farm Sanctuary commends the State Police
for investigating this matter, and urges the judge to
levy the stiffest penalties possible.
